The usual criticism is fair
You cannot talk much during a film. If the entire purpose of a first date is to spend two uninterrupted hours asking each other questions, a cinema is not the ideal room.
But that is not the only way to structure a first meeting.
It works better when the film came first
If both people independently chose the same screening before seeing each other's profile, neither person picked a random film to please the other.
The shared choice already creates context. You both had a reason to be there even before the introduction existed.
Meet briefly before, talk properly after
Arrive 15 to 25 minutes early, say hello and get settled. You do not need to fill an hour before the screening with forced conversation.
After the film you have something real to discuss. If the conversation flows, stay for a drink or walk. If it does not, both people can go home without the evening feeling pointless.
Keep safety and independence intact
Meet in a public place, control your own transport and tell somebody you trust where you are going. A mutual match is an introduction, not a guarantee of compatibility or consent to anything beyond meeting.
If anything feels wrong, leave. The film can wait.
